ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA*Menimum Educational Qualification :Candidates must have passed Matriculation/ ITI or its equivalent and must represented the country in any of the category – C Championship/ events or at least 3rd position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior category) or represented a State of equivalent unit, except in Marathan and Cross Country, in Senior/Youth/Junior National Championship.
*Age Limit and Relaxation:Candidates’ age limit must be between 18 to 25 years as on 01-01-2014. No age relaxation is permissible.
EXAMINATION FEE:Candidates have to pay the Demand Draft/ Crossed Indian Postal order for Rs.100/- drawn in favour of Sports Secretary, Machanical Workshop, North Easter Railway, Gorakhpur payable at Gorakhpur. All SC/ ST/ Sikh/ Mushlim/ Buddisht/ Zorastrian (Parsi) candidates are exempted from payment of examination fee.
MODE OF SELECTION :Candidates will be selected based on trial, assessment of sports achievements and general intelligence/personality etc.
HOW TO APPLYEligible candidates can send their applications in the prescribed format in English or Hindi language by affix one recent passport size photograph along with two extra passport size self attested photographs, self attested copies of certificates in proof of age, Educational qualification, Community, Sports achievement/certificate etc, examination fee, enclosed in an envelope superscribed in bold letters “Application for Group D Post against Sports quota 2013-14 (Open Advertisement Scheme).”, should reach to Senior Personnel Officer (Workshop), in Mechanical Workshop, North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur – 273012 so as to reach on or before 15-12-2013. Application may also be dropped in the box kept in the office of the Workshop Manager (P), Mechanical Workshop, North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur on any working day (Monday to Friday between 10.00 hrs. to 17.30 hrs. and Saturday between 08.00 hrs. to 13.00 hrs.on or before 15-12-2013. For candidates belonging to Andman Nicobar & Laxyadwip Island closing date would be 25-12-2013 up to 17:30 hrs.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATES(a) Before applying to the post, the candidate should ensure that hefulfils the eligibility norms as given in para as 3, 4, 5 & 6 above
(b) The name and initial of the candidates and father’s name appearing in school/college certificates and in sports certificates should be the same. There should be no difference.
(c) The specific position played in the particular game/events should be mentioned in the application without fail.
(d) The candidates already employed in Central/State/PSUS including Railways should submit their application through proper channel duly submitting “No objection certificate” from their employer.
(e) The decision of the Railway administration in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of the application, penalty for false information and mode of selection shall be final and binding on the candidates
(f) Candidates recommended for appointment will have to pass the requisite medical fitness standards prescribed for the selected post.
(g) Canvassing in any form shall disqualify the candidate
(h) The candidates should be in readiness to appear for the trial at short notice after the last date for receipt of application is over.
ABOUT THE ORGANISATIONApril 16, 1853, was a public holiday in Bombay. Throughout the early afternoon, throngs of holiday makers could be seen making their way to Bori Bunder from where wafted strains of music, rendered by the Governor's personal band. Shortly before 3.30 p.m., 400 privileged personalities of the city climbed aboard the center of the day's festivities - the 14 gleaming carriages of the Great India Peninsula Railway, coupled behind a small steam engine, named the Falkland At the stroke of the half-hour, the driver of the Falkland opened the engine valves, as his fireman shoveled vigorously. The Falkland breathed heavily, enveloping bystanders in a cloud of steam. The driver reached for the whistle chord, the crowd cheered lustily and the boom of the first volley of a 21 gun salute resounded through the moist heat of the afternoon. A final toot of the whistle, a final snort from Falkland and India's first railway train edged forward, puffing and hissing and groaning through the 35 kilometers to Thana.Almost six years later, on March 3, 1859, the first Railway Line in North India was laid between Allahabad and Kanpur. This was followed, in 1889, by the Delhi - Ambala - Kalka line. From these modest beginnings, the Indian Railways have grown to become the world's largest network under a single management, covering 7000 stations spread over 62,725 route kilometers and 1,07,360 track kilometers, carrying over 11 million passengers and over one million tonnes of freight every day Administratively, the Indian Railways have been divided into nine zones, each headed by a General Manager and further sub-divided into 56 divisions, each headed by a Divisional Railway Manager.Northern Eastern Railway was erstwhile a grand Three-divisional Varanasi, Izzatnagar and Lucknow.The computerized passenger reservation system was first introduced here, on 1986.
